This program is kind of a love/hate thing for me. I love the fact that Weight Watchers provides a support system and group meeting for clients to help maintain their motivation levels. This company has locations all over the world! Not that you are that into your diet plan while vacationing in France but the idea is a good one and many people utilize this feature. The downside to Weight Watchers for me is the lack of concern for proper and healthy eating habits that do not require constant maintenance and program direction. In a nutshell our chemical response to foods that weight watchers would consider high point foods, appear to create the highest cravings in many adults.  Having them at all for many people is like an occasional beer for the alcoholic.  The program is based on limiting consumption of foods and counting the points that they are worth but I find the limiting macaroni and cheese concept to be a lot like injecting just a little bit of heroin for most people.   These are supposed to be consumed in small amounts so of course you will lose weight if you are used to eating a half gallon of cookies and cream (my favorite), but you are not learning about eating correctly and your body is still having to fight to digest all that unhealthy food.  Weight Watchers provides food (at an additional charge) and I do love the easy meal choice concept.  They also offer group meetings with wonderful support groups, motivational and emotional counseling and a world wide network of locations. What I do not see in Weight Watcher participants is the muscle tone and level of fitness that I expect to see when all the time and money has been invested in any program.  I do not feel that success can be found when leaving out any of the three principles of maintaining health, proper diet, resistance training and cardio vascular exercise.  I am inclined to think that this program is designed to help clients lose weight while on the program but not on their own. It seems and interesting way to maintain a client base and I have several clients on the weight watchers program that appear to benefit from the program greatly when used in conjunction with exercise.   All in all I love this program if it is used in conjunction with an exercise regimen.
